Arapahoe Volunteer Fire-Rescue Gets Additional Fire Truck with Financial Gift from Arlington Place Development

ARAPAHOE, NC – (May 27, 2008) – The Arlington Place residential development has provided $90,000 for the purchase and delivery of a used ladder fire truck to the Arapahoe Volunteer Fire-Rescue organization. The volunteer fire and rescue team hopes to bring the truck into service by the end of May or early June.

“We’re extremely appreciative to the Arlington Place development for the monetary gift to purchase and refurbish this ladder fire truck,” said Arapahoe Volunteer Fire Chief Steve Murray. “Our goal is to respond more effectively to fires in buildings that are two or more stories tall.”

“We hope this additional fire truck can help the Arapahoe Volunteer Fire & Rescue do an even more effective job in this part of Pamlico County, especially as the area continues to experience growth,” said Doug Anderson, president of BNE Land & Development, the lead partner for Arlington Place through its Kitty Hawk Land Company division.

Anderson and the Arlington Place team worked closely with the fire responders in the development of a financial arrangement to purchase the Custom Pierce fire truck. The fire truck carries and can pump up to 1,250 gallons per minute of water for fire suppression as well as a ladder system that extends up to 50 feet above ground. The 1994 model truck was purchased in Florida and shipped here recently.

Murray said the fire truck will be repainted and equipped for local needs and becomes the very first ladder truck to join the organization’s fleet of emergency response vehicles.

“This truck will give us the ability to knock down much more quickly a fire in an attic or roof of a two or three-story structure and perhaps save the structure -- or even a life,” said Murray. He cited the construction of multi-story homes in Arlington Place and several other developments in the surrounding areas of Pamlico County.

Arlington Place has already paid more than $1.1 million to Pamlico County in water impact fees since the project was launched, but the company wants to enhance the fire suppression capability beyond the limits of the county’s current water system.

“There’s also the longer-term need to ensure there’s sufficient water pressure for fighting fires, especially considering the potential for dry summer conditions throughout this area and the state,” said Anderson.

Murray said he anticipates an open house will be scheduled this summer for local residents to see the new fire truck once the improvements are completed.

”We appreciate Arlington Place as a neighbor in providing us the resources to purchase this truck,” said Carl Yeager who is chairman of the Arapahoe Fire and Rescue board of directors.

County Commission Chairman Douglas Brinson, who represents the Minnesott Beach, Arapahoe and Oriental areas, said, ‘‘We appreciate this gift to improve our fire-fighting capability because it benefits everybody in this part of the county, not just Arlington Place.”

Developed by Kitty Hawk Land Company and located in Minnesott Beach, Arlington Place is a gated 900-acre upscale residential waterfront community that includes a planned harbor-style marina and marina clubhouse (including a fitness center, spa, restaurant, pool and tennis courts and more).
