Beer Army’s intent is to develop a craft beer scene and community in Eastern North Carolina by supporting our regional breweries. We feel the best way to accomplish this goal is by hosting a premier beer festival.
We are excited to be associated with and raising money for Hope for the Warriors in this inaugural event. Beer Army has chosen this charity due to their fiscal restraint in that 92% of every dollar donated goes to those in need. Hope for the Warriors is a non-profit charity whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for U.S. service members and their families nationwide who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty. Beaufort Pirate Invasion
DATE: 8/13/10-8/14/10
TIME: 1:30
LOCATION: Downtown Beaufort
WEBSITE: www.beaufortpirateinvasion.com
At the Beaufort Historic Site in the center of downtown, an authentic Pirate Encampment is active on Friday evening and all day Saturday with real Brethren of the Sea and wenches of a fascinating variety. Dinner and grog is served here Friday night by ticket.
Saturday (August 8), beginning at 1:30 PM, the Beaufort Pirate Invasion occurs!
It begins with the Pirates Procession along the downtown waterfront to Pollock Street where, in 1747, the town militia met the long boat of Spanish pirate invaders set on pillaging the town. At 1:30 PM, cannons will be firing on the town, muskets on land will be countering, and the melee will begin!
History records that nearly 100 local farmers and townsfolk joined the small band of militiamen in defense of the town. The result was victory over the invading pirates! It is said that some of the pirates were buried in the Old Burying Grounds where they remain today.
Following the Invasion, there will be a public trial and other occurrences appropriate to a Pirate Invasion, exactly as it was in 1747. The day concludes with a celebration of the town's victory at the North Carolina Maritime Museum where everyone will celebrate like pirates!
Plan now to summon your crew for the first full weekend of August in Beaufort. It's great excitement that is fun for everyone.
The Beaufort Pirate Invasion is an event of the Beaufort Business Association. Tickets to food events will be available soon. For more information, call 252-728-3988 or send email to martha@cousinsbedandbreakfast.com
For a taste of things to come, visit www.beaufortpirateinvasion.com. Accommodations and complete information are on the web site.
