Fiddlefest - A Tribute to Irvin T. Rouse

LOCATION: Farmer's Market, New Bern
Local fiddlers will present a concert at the New Bern Farmers' market in celebration of the history of fiddling in the greater New Bern community. A special tribute will be paid to Mr. Rouse who wrote "The Orange Blossom Special." The cost will be $5.00 for adults and free to children under 12 years of age.
It promises to be a fun event for all.

| This Civil War weekend will concentrate on a reenactment of Camp Armory at the New Bern Academy. Living history presentations, games, and programs throughout the weekend will highlight life in Civil War-era New Bern. This Civil War Weekend will focus more on the military aspect of the conflict (as opposed to the civilian). Living history programs, encampments, and the reopening of the New Bern Academy as a Civil War museum, will be scheduled. Programs will be included in regular ticketed admission. Grand National Antique Automobile Show

This judged antique car show is part of the annual shows held by the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA). 2010 is the 75th anniversary of the AACA. Cars will be on display throughout New Bern downtown streets.
African American Historic Downtown Walking Tour

Learn about 300 years of African American history on a walking tour of New Bern's historic district. This tour begins at 2:00 PM at the Tryon Palace Visitor's Center lobby and lasts approximately 90 minutes and covers 16 blocks. The cost is $4 per adult and $2 per student. New Bern the Revolutionary Town: Let's Celebrate

This July Fourth Celebration will take place 10 AM to 4 PM Friday and Saturday, 1 PM to 4 PM on Sunday at the Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens grounds and the New Bern Academy. Join us on Friday for a production of our "Making of a State" theatre program and tours focusing on the Revolution. On Saturday, celebrate the holiday with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, fife and drum performances, draft activities, and games for all ages. On Sunday, come to the New Bern Academy as we portray a 19th-Century Independence Day celebration. Notable New Bern citizens from the 1830s will be having a picnic lunch; bring your own picnic and perhaps join in some dancing! Interior tours will require a ticket; outdoor activities will be free.

World's Largest Barbeque Bun

Stanly-Spaight Duel Reenactment

Tour the New Bern Academy, enjoy a concert by the Tryon Palace Fife & Drum Corps, and step back in time to an era where a man's personal honor was his most cherished quality. Watch the spectacle of the September 5, 1802 Stanly-Spaight duel unfold before your eyes. In this historical reenactment of a duel between Nineteenth-century new Bern political rivals, costumed characters battle to protect their reputation. Tours available from 1 PM to 4 PM; performance at 4 PM, followed by the duel.

Opening of the Bern - New Bern Exhibit

This exhibit, opening in the Historisches Museum Bern in December of 2009, will be traveling to New Bern from Switzerland. The exhibit leads the public through the history of New Bern in eleven scenes. Themes covered include emigration from Bern in the early eighteenth century and the life of the town's founder, Christoph van Graffenried.

Neuse River Run/Walk

Christmas Candlelights

Experience an eighteenth-century candlelit Christmas celebration! The Evening program includes a tour through the Palace (and perhaps a word or two with the governor), performances by Tryon Palace's Fife and Drum Corps and Jonkonnu troupe, and an assortment of other performers. The evening ends with a grand illumination over the South Lawn.
