It’s a fun filled and festive weekend in Oriental with the annual Spirit of Christmas this Friday & Saturday. Here are the details from TownDock.net:
The opening night of Oriental’s Spirit of Christmas is Friday December 11 and it centers on light – on the water and on land. On this night of light there’s the lighting of the Oriental Star down by the Town Dock. And the luminaria will line the streets and bridge. Want to bring light even closer to the water? There are two boat events you can take part in: A lighted boat parade will pass through Oriental’s harbor around 5pm. Here’s your chance to make your boat shine.
A bit later, comes Oriental’s newer tradition: the flotilla of lighted kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and any unmotorized dinghies. They’re a beautiful sight, the silhouettes at sunset and those twinkling lights appearing just over the horizon, as the paddlers work
their way toward the Town Dock. Highlights on Saturday include the SoC Parade whose theme is Merry Dinghy Christmas. It is happening at 1p this year. Also, look for the live nativity at the Methodist Church at 3p, lots of open houses and food and drink at businesses and booths for charities around town.
