‘Cue 4 The Neuse
April 28 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
You are invited to a BBQ fundraiser for Sound Rivers and the Mighty Neuse River!
Did you know that our beloved Neuse River (named for the Neusiok Native American word for “peace”) is the widest river mouth in America? It is 6 miles at its widest point! It is also the longest river in North Carolina, stretching 248 miles from the Falls Lake Reservoir Dam in the Piedmont to its mouth at the Pamlico Sound.
The river runs through 11 counties in NC, and encompasses over 6,000 square miles of watershed.
The Neuse’s free-flowing nature from Raleigh to the Atlantic provides all of us a priceless recreational and economic resource. Of the 3.5 million acres that comprise the Neuse Basin, 48,000 acres are state parks; 110,000 acres are game lands held by the Wildlife Resources Commission; and 58,000 acres are National Forest.
But this river of peace is in jeopardy.
In 2017, American Rivers listed the mighty Neuse River as the 7th most endangered River in America, mostly due to pollution… The good news is you can help! https://www.americanrivers.org/endangered-rivers/neuse-cape-fear-rivers-nc/
In celebration of #NCBeerMonth and in the spirit of caring for our beloved Neuse River, Inland Waterway Provision Company and The New Village Brewery & Taproom are teaming up to host a backyard pig-picking BBQ. Our friend Jim Kellenberger will be preparing and serving up his famous eco-friendly NC BBQ, starting at 5pm. Craft beer from 4 breweries who rely on water from the Neuse River basin will be on tap #MotherEarthBrewery
Live music by Yacht Dawgs! All proceeds from food will be donated to Sound Rivers. The Inland Waterway Provision Co. and New Village Brewery will also donate for each pint sold.
Come out and enjoy some great BBQ, and help keep our Neuse clean now and for future generations!
