An uplifting and thought-provoking experience for audiences featuring African American heritage and performance traditions. The revue is presented through spoken word, skits, poetry, music, songs, and dance. Sankofa (pronounced SAHN-koh-fah) is a word in the Twi language of Ghana meaning “to retrieve” (literally “go back and get”; san – to return; ko – to go; fa – to fetch, to seek and take). The word is used in many ways in modern societies and is also the title of a 1993 feature film drama. Stage editions of Sankofa share no more than the name as each edition is uniquely created by those involved with no two alike. If you saw Sankofa 2022 at NBCT last year, or in 2021, this edition will be completely new to you. Come follow a celebration of past and present with artists from our region.
