Sankofa 2023

An uplifting and thought-provoking experience for audiences featuring African American heritage and performance traditions. The revue is presented through spoken word, skits, poetry, music, songs, and dance. Sankofa (pronounced SAHN-koh-fah) is a word in the Twi language of Ghana meaning “to retrieve” (literally “go back and get”; san – to return; ko – to go; fa – to fetch, to seek and take). The word is used in many ways in modern societies and is also the title of a 1993 feature film drama. Stage editions of Sankofa share no more than the name as each edition is uniquely created by those involved with no two alike.
