The Dragon Boat Festival once again paddles it’s way into Oriental this weekend, August 10th – 12th. Although only in it’s 3rd year, the Dragon Boat Festival is attracting some top teams going from 9 teams in year one to a couple dozen teams for the 2012 race.  And for those (of us) on-shore, there will be great food, great music, kids activities, a parade of teams and much more.

Dating back 2000 years, Dragon Boats are the world’s largest flat water racing canoes, propelled by a crew of 20 plus a drummer and a steersperson where teamwork is everything and synchronicity is more important than strength.  It’s very entertaining for the paddlers and spectators alike, and I don’t think you could ask for a more picturesque backdrop as the racers paddle down the Oriental waterfront.
