The Sunfish World Championship at Arlington Place

Camp Seagull and Camp Seafarer are gearing up for this year’s Sunfish World Championship—a huge international sailing event— to be hosted in Minnesott Beach, North Carolina. The event will take place October 8-18, and will be welcoming sailors (and their families, coaches, support teams, and volunteers) from all over the world.

Their position on a five-mile stretch of open water on the Neuse River, 3,000 feet of shoreline, calm and steady south-southwest winds, and a wide open racing area on the river also make for an ideal spot for the championship.

Arlington Place, a community in Minnesott Beach, North Carolina, and right between both camps, is also getting in on all the excitement the Sunfish World Championship will bring to the area.

On Sunday, October 12, at Arlington Place’s clubhouse, the neighborhood will host the Youth Closing Ceremonies and the Adult Opening Ceremonies, a very exciting moment for everyone.

“Since people are literally coming from all over the world, we thought we’d treat them to some good Southern flavors,” shoreline-selling-sunfish-sailingBecca Lang says. “So the theme of the dinner is Taste of Carolina.”

The menu for dinner includes peel and eat shrimp, crab dip, fried chicken, clam chowder, and apple cobbler, giving the guests the full experience of southern eats. Arlington Place will even have a Dark & Stormy station, which they have heard is the preferred beverage of many sailors.

The Sunfish World Championship expects to welcome about 120 sailors to the area, the competitors having earned their berths through qualifying regattas in their home countries.
