Where’s AP?

AP is located in Pamlico County North Carolina just off highway 306 bewtween the towns of Arapahoe and Minnesott Beach. The latitude and longitude at the neighborhood entrance is 35.011164, -76.822486.

The surrounding area is known as North Carolina’s Coastal Plain. We are located in the easternmost section of this area, often referred to as the Tidewater region. Pamlico County is a peninsula that extends into the broad reaches of the Pamlico Sound.

We are bordered to the north by the Pamlico River, to the south by the Neuse River, and to the west by Craven County, home to New Bern, the former capitol of NC (1770-1792).

At Arlington Place, each new feature and amenity helps create a special sense of place. So you can start your day with a refreshing swim in the pool or meet your neighbors for afternoon tennis or pickleball.

Then set out for a hike on the quiet wooded trails and boardwalks. When the sun disappears and stars fill the night sky, you’ll be roasting s’mores around the fire pit, swapping stories and wondering what tomorrow might bring.

What are some of the amenities?

The Burton Village Clubhouse includes a pool, basketball court, tennis courts, beach volleyball and a kids playground.

Property owners can enjoy unique amenities like our pristine riverfront beach and kayak launch, or more traditional offerings such as the tennis courts, basketball courts, swimming pool, and clubhouse.

The summers are hot and muggy, the winters are cold and windy, and it is wet and partly cloudy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 37°F to 89°F and is rarely below 24°F or above 95°F.

The best time of year to visit for warm-weather activities are from late April to early June and from mid September to late October.
 

Temperature


The hot season lasts for 3.7 months, from May 26 to September 18, with an average daily high temperature above 82°F. The cool season lasts for 3.0 months, from December 3 to March 3, with an average daily high temperature below 61°F.
 

Clouds


The clearer part of the year lasts for 2.7 months, from September 14 to December 6. The cloudier part of the year lasts for 9.3 months, from December 6 to September 14.
 

Precipitation


The wetter season lasts 3.4 months, from June 3 to September 16, with a greater than 36% chance of a given day being a wet day. The drier season lasts 8.6 months, from September 16 to June 3.
 

Rainfall


Rain falls throughout the year here with significant seasonal variation in monthly rainfall. The most rain falls during the 31 days centered around August 27, with an average total accumulation of 6.0 inches. The least rain falls around November 9, with an average total accumulation of 3.1 inches.
 

Sun


The length of the day here varies significantly over the course of the year. The following data is for calendar year 2021.

The shortest day is December 21, with 9 hours, 47 minutes of daylight. The longest day is June 20, with 14 hours, 32 minutes of daylight. The earliest sunrise is at 5:52 AM on June 12. The latest sunrise is at 7:33 AM on November 6. The earliest sunset is at 4:54 PM on December 4. The latest sunset is at 8:25 PM on June 28. Daylight saving time (DST) is observed in our area, starting in the spring on March 14, lasting 7.8 months, and ending in the fall on November 7.
 

Humidity


This area experiences extreme seasonal variation in the perceived humidity. The muggier period of the year lasts for 5.1 months, from May 10 to October 13. 
 

Wind


The average hourly wind speed in our area experiences significant seasonal variation over the course of the year.

The windier part of the year lasts for 6.4 months, from November 1 to May 12, with average wind speeds of more than 8.4 miles per hour. The calmer time of year lasts for 5.6 months, from May 12 to November 1, with an average hourly wind speed of 6.8 miles per hour. The wind is most often from the south for 5.1 months, from March 27 to August 29. The wind is most often from the east for 1.7 weeks, from August 29 to September 10. The wind is most often from the north for 6.5 months, from September 10 to March 27.
 

Water Temperature


The average water temperature experiences significant seasonal variation over the course of the year.

The time of year with warmer water lasts for 3.1 months, from June 17 to September 20, with an average temperature above 77°F. The time of year with cooler water lasts for 4.0 months, from December 20 to April 20, with an average temperature below 65°F.
 

Best Time of Year to Visit


The best times of year to visit for general outdoor activities are from late April to early June and from mid September to late October with the prime time being the first week of October. The best times of year to visit for hot-weather activities are from early June to mid July and from late July to late September,with the prime time being the first week of September.
 

Growing Season


The growing season here typically lasts for 8.6 months (263 days), from around March 12 to around November 30, rarely starting before February 14 or after April 2, and rarely ending before November 11 or after December 19.
 

Solar Energy


The brighter period of the year lasts for 3.4 months, from April 10 to July 24, with an average daily incident shortwave energy per square meter above 5.8 kWh. The darker period of the year lasts for 2.9 months, from November 11 to February 7, with an average daily incident shortwave energy per square meter below 3.3 kWh.

The topography within 2 miles of 35.143, -76.770 is essentially flat, with a maximum elevation change of 16 feet and an average elevation above sea level of 6 feet.

Please note that AP uniquely sits atop a high river bluff. The average elevation of the neighborhood is 21′ above sea level!

Within 10 miles is also essentially flat (52 feet). Within 50 miles is essentially flat (148 feet). The area within 2 miles of 35.143, -76.770 is covered by cropland (49%) and trees (34%), within 10 miles by trees (53%) and herbaceous vegetation (22%), and within 50 miles by water (38%) and trees (28%).
