The Palace often conjures images of the Governors and their families who called the building home. What often is missing from the picture, however, is the number of staff, free and enslaved, who cooked the food, cared for the horses, emptied the chamber pots, and anything else that was required to make a life of luxury possible. “Life on the Lesser Stairs” will take you on a tour of the Palace, Stables, and Kitchen Office to shine a light on the individuals who also called the Palace home but whose lives were not as glamorous. Tour goes to the Palace, Stables, and Kitchen Office first floors. Space is limited on each tour and flash photography is prohibited. Tours may involve walking and climbing stairs.

Like history and music? You’ll like this one! And it’s a chance to see the first run of a brand-new musical! You’ll learn a little-known story of Keith and Malinda Blalock from Grandfather Mountain—the “Bonnie and Clyde of North Carolina.” He supported the Union cause, but the Confederate Army wanted him. So, he joined them. And so did she. He was initially unaware that she had disguised herself as a man to join him in his adventure. You’ll follow their exploits from the Battle of Kinston and back to the west where they join a band of Union-favoring Bushwhackers. Their story is told by Bill Hand with music by James Merritt, two of Eastern North Carolina’s finest! Show dates are July 19, 20, 26 & 27 at 7pm and July 21 & 28 at 2pm at Craven Community College’s Orringer Auditorium. Presented i partnership with Craven Community College. olTickets will be available June 1 at www.NCHistoryTheater.org and at the Bank of the Arts at 317 Middle Street, New Bern.

NBCT’s Saax Bradbury Player Teens will rock the Athens stage with Disney’s Camp Rock: The Musical. The show is a throwback to the days when ‘American Idol’ was new, ‘Glee’ was the #1 TV show and everyone was obsessed with who would be the next pop star singing sensation. Disney’s Camp Rock is pure fun for the whole family. Approximately 90-minutes: Rated , appropriate for most audiences but themes of teen rivalry and romance are present. We would like to thank The Epiphany School of Global Studies and Surf, Wind and Fire for their generous support as the Title Co-Sponsors for “Disney’s Camp Rock.”
