This event will benefit ovarian cancer research through the Mucinous Ovarian Cancer Coalition. We are excited to offer a yearly event to raise funds and awareness about ovarian cancer. There is no screening method to detect ovarian cancer. The signs and symptoms of the disease are often vague. Some of the signs/symptoms include bloating, feeling full quickly, abdominal or pelvic pain, and urinary frequency. All women with ovaries are at risk for this disease. Sign up and run or walk this race for all the important women in your life and help contribute to ovarian cancer research! Registration Fees: In-Person $35 - until June 14th $40 - June 15th - August 14th $45 - August 15th-September 27th (race t-shirt is not guaranteed) Runners in the 5K, receive t-shirt with a custom logo form local artist Nel McLawhorn. This program is presented in collaboration with the Seacoast Spinners and Weavers Guild. Explore fibers arts from the past and present at Tryon Palace. Guild members will demonstrate the historical process of spinning and weaving, and show how raw, natural materials are made into a complete woven product. Various textile fabrics through the ages will be on display, as well as textile tools, wool samples and preps, and samples of 18th century clothing. FREE admission. HAVELOCK CHILI FESTIVAL’S 43rd YEAR OF CHILI & COMMUNITY SET FOR OCTOBER 18th HAVELOCK, NC – Chili, music, vendors, & family fun - the The Havelock Chili Festival Committee is bringing all that and more to this year’s Havelock Chili Festival sponsored by Light ‘em Up on Saturday, Oct 18th, including the NC State Chili Cook-off, ChiliFest Beer Garden and ChiliFestCar Show. The 43rd Annual Havelock Chili Festival sponsored by Light ‘em Up, a 1-day event featuring music, food, shopping and fun, is back on its traditional 3rd Saturday in October on Saturday from 10am to 6pm rain or shine at Walter B. Jones Park in the center of Havelock. Chili Sampling and the Shortway Chilifest Beer Garden both open at noon. Some of the best chili cooks in the area will be competing in the Traditional Red category, including last year’s winner, Jeff Richardson. Local chili cooks and organizations are also competing for the $500 People’s Choice prize. Festival patrons will purchase $10 wristbands for unlimited chili sampling and use the wristband to vote for their favorite. Voting hours are noon to 4pm with winners announced at 5pm.
