  • Helt Oncale

609 Broad St 232 Knox Dr, Morehead City, NC, United States

Helt Oncale is returning to the Old Theater stage following a memorable performance last year. Helt is a charismatic singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for playing many different styles from earthy rhythm ‘n’ blues to Louisiana Cajun, from swing rock ‘n’ roll to original American country and bluegrass. In a soft, sensitive voice he tells his stories from his homeland, describes the pulsating life of New Orleans, sings of the ancients out in the swamps and bayous, and relays the hopes, longings, joys and sorrows, always of the “boundless Spirit of Louisiana.” He accompanies himself on various instruments in playful alternation of guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and banjo. Whether he's playing one of his own cheerful fiddle tunes, a stomping blues, or an old Cajun tune, whenever you close your eyes, you feel the heartbeat of Louisiana and an inimitable feeling of “Laisser les bon temps rouler” – Let the good times roll! Helt began his career at the age of 19 performing in the clubs and bars of Bourbon Street and learning from the best in the French Quarter. After touring throughout the United States, he settled in Germany where he has won awards of acclaim and now makes his home. […]

  • Love, Loss, and What I Wore

609 Broad St 232 Knox Dr, Morehead City, NC, United States

"Love, Loss, and What I Wore" is a play written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, based on the bestselling book by Ilene Beckerman. Monologues and ensemble pieces follow fragmented stories about the nostalgic power of women’s clothing. A cast of five women enrobed in black sit on stools and tell funny, wistful and universal memories about their families and loved ones through the prism of their closets. It is about women, clothes and memories covering all the important subjects like mothers, proms, mothers, buying bras, mothers, hating purses, and why we only wear black. It is funny and powerful, a reminder of our female wiles, worries, and insecurities. Five local actresses portray multiple characters: Nelda Coates, Elaine Creel, Jessica Russo, Gail Vergato, and Christine Wager. "Love, Loss, and What I Wore" is produced by the Old Theater’s production company, Pamlico Players, under the leadership of Per Erichsen and directed by Deirdre Murray. Tickets are $25 for general admission; $20 for Old Theater members, military, and students. Tickets are also available at Nautical Wheelers in Oriental and New Bern. https://www.facebook.com/events/1375299673605152/
